JRT & Spanish Embassy Team Up for Jos Festival of Theatre 2026

The Jos Repertory Theatre (JRT) is collaborating with AECID Spain and the Embassy of Spain, Nigeria to host this year’s Jos International Festival of Theatre (JFT). The festival, the 17th edition, will hold from 7th–10th October at the premises of the Alliance Francaise, Jos.

“With the conclusion of the plays selection process and the commencement of rehearsals, we’re hoping that the 2026 edition of the festival will bring smiles and memories to our audiences as well as create new insights that only the theatre can provide,” says Jos Repertory Theatre’s Artisitic Director, Patrick-Jude Oteh, in a press statement. “We look forward to an enduring relationship with AECID, Spain and a continuation of our collaboration with the Embassy of Spain, Nigeria.”

Both institutions are joined by a growing list of sponsors and collaborators to give the festival a new lease on life.

The festival will feature four plays alongside a series of workshops and seminars, all holding at Alliance Fracaise. The plays to be performed include: Osasogie Efe Guobadia’s new play, Woven Veil; Jerry Alagbaoso’s The Widow’s Tale; Denja Abdulahi’s, Chants In A Cemetery and Federico Garcia Lorca’s The Shoemaker’s Wonderful Wife.

With the Spanish Embassy, the JRT is continuing a partnership that’s been ongoing for 11 years, which partly includes bringing Spanish plays to audiences in Northern Nigeria. In a previous edition, the festival featured Federico Garcia Lorca’s Yerma, which was adapted to Northern Nigeria setting by the late Biyi Bandele.
